Colourful WEDDING AT THE GROVES featured on Hooray Weddings

Mpilo and Nombuso have been together for five years, and you can feel the love and chemistry between these two beautiful souls as soon as you meet them. Their wedding at The Groves was planned for May 2020… and then came Coronavirus. To say that the next few months weren’t easy would be an understatement. We had to deal with date changes, uncertainty, and changing restrictions that meant a cut in the numbers, as well as lots of general fluidity with the wedding planning. But these two were total rockstars! They always remained hopeful, strong in their belief that everything was happening as it should. And finally, when we moved to Level 1, the couple who couldn’t wait to get married, finally could. It was a glorious, sunshine-filled day, where Mpilo and Nombuso were surrounded by the love of their incredible friends and family as they said “I do”. Their wedding at The Groves was recently featured on local blog, Hooray Weddings – be sure to check out the full feature here!

The charming countryside backdrop of Nottingham Road, in the Natal Midlands, was the setting for Mpilo and Nombuso’s wedding at The Groves. What a delight to be at this magical place – one of our favourite KZN wedding venues! From their first viewing, the bride and groom fell in love with the elegance and romance of The Groves venue. They especially loved the leafy gardens and the idyllic views of meadows and rolling green hills – perfect for photographs! Nombuso and her girls got ready at the thatched manor house, with the ceremony in the atmospheric stone and wood chapel, and the reception in the barn-style venue with its cool grey walls and white trusses. 125 of the couple’s closest family and friends had travelled here to celebrate their love in style, and from beginning to end, it could not have been more incredible.

I love a good neutral, but sometimes a happy colour like a bold marigold yellow can really set the mood for an event. After a year like no other, it was definitely time for happiness! We wanted to paint a picture of a cheer-filled, elegant celebration that embraced bold, playful colours and showcased vibrant summer florals. The Groves venue served as the perfect blank canvas for a palette of yellow, pink, coral, scarlet and emerald. Multi-coloured roses were placed in low vessels on the tables, along with pale pink anthuriums and other seasonal blooms, while much larger arrangements of both fresh and dried foliage and flowers were hung from the exposed ceilings. On each table, soft velvet linens added luxurious texture, while taper candles added pops of colour, along with yellow napkins at each setting. Even the cakes were colourful! Three delicious yellow creations with deckled edges and watercolour detail were served up in decadent flavours of vanilla bean, chocolate orange, and chocolate mud.

But as fabulous as the décor was, it was the couple themselves (as well as their entourage) who stole the show in their stylish ensembles. Nombuso wore a stunning convertible wedding gown with floral lace detailing, and glamorous hair and makeup. Her groom, Mpilo, donned a dapper white tuxedo jacket, while the groomsmen wore classic black and the bridesmaids shone in sophisticated emerald gowns with pearl embellishment.

Here’s what the couple had to say about their wedding at The Groves and their experience with Oh Happy Day:

“We honestly cannot even find the words to describe or even thank the ladies from Oh Happy Day! Let me start with amazing and end with absolutely incredible! They completely took every single detail we had envisioned and literally brought it to life! They went beyond our expectations and wildest dreams. Their passion, their personal touch is like no other. They really dedicate themselves to you and to your day. They were also our voice of reason, our support system when we needed it the most and quite literally, our calm in the storm.”

What a wonderful day it was! Thank you, Mpilo and Nombuso, for placing your trust in us. Wishing you a lifetime of happiness and love together!
