Styled Shoot : A Luxe Affair

Styled Shoot : A Luxe Affair

What do you get when you put a bunch of wedding industry creatives in an art gallery with one super loved-up engaged couple?  You get a little bit of industrial glam, a teeny tiny touch of luxury, a pinch of floral beauty and a whole lot of love!

I’m very proud to present to you A Luxe Affair: a romantic, industrial-inspired engagement shoot, shot in the contemporary artSPACE theatre.

I loved being part of this shoot for many reasons:

The venue: Art Space Gallery is unassumingly captivating – set in the hub of Durban’s creative playground, A Luxe Affair was one of the first wedding styled shoots held in this venue (brilliantly suggested by Stacey Cruickshanks of The Shank Tank).

The colour palette: It lends itself beautifully to our theme of industrial glam; the rich copper tones and the use of greys and light pinks in the flowers paired beautifully with our surroundings. I think the best part of using an art gallery for a shoot is that you aren’t limited by the details and we had so much fun mixing up the metallic overtones with the different textures of the concrete floor and all the gorgeous artworks on the walls. Every nook and cranny of the gallery presented a visual feast and we were spoilt for choice in terms of shot variety!

Most importantly, I am proud of this shoot because it was a prize that we gave away in an effort to be a part of World Wedding Changer day – a concept of wedding industry professionals giving back to the community/industry/mother earth, be it by conservation, recycling, or quite simply, by grace: donating your time, your profits or your experience. I loved the idea of hosting a competition whereby friends and family could nominate a deserving, engaged couple who would benefit greatly from a bit of spoiling; and this is how it came to be that Elisabeth and Craig became our WWCD winners.

To bare testimony to how deserving of this prize they really were, Craig and Liz even brought us all a packed lunch on the day of the shoot; home-made ham sandwiches made with love by Craig himself. Are you kidding me? This is one very special couple!

  2. Thanks for this! I have been trying to explain a similar photo concept to my fiance and these visuals made it so much easier for him to understand. Lovely job!

Ah, thank you so much Ashleigh! This is the exact reason why I think inspiration shoots are so important – to provide you with a reference point of ideas that you can take into your own visions. Absolutely love it when brides appreciate our work! Good luck with all your planning. x
