The whole experience was such a dream, they organized EVERYTHING, all we had to do was show up for tastings, mock ups and pick our favourites. I can’t begin to thank Joelene and her team at Oh Happy Day for making our dream wedding come true. From start to finish, they were there for us. The team pulled together a wedding which was unique, stylish and exactly what we wanted. The flowers were out of this world, better than I even envisaged. The decor was on point- nothing was too much for the team. We wanted navy velvet table cloths, we got them. On the day itself (as the bride) I didn’t have a worry in the world – except to enjoy the day thanks to Joelene and Tegan ensuring everything went to plan, which it did. If I had to say where our wedding budget was best spent, it would have to be on Oh Happy Day. They were worth every cent and we can’t thank them enough for giving us our perfect wedding day!

Joelene and her team at Oh Happy Day were really incredible! My vision for our wedding was a two-day affair in the middle of the bush which included some pretty impossible elements like a music/food festival, 3 story trees decked in fairy lights and all the catering done without proper access to water or electricity. All in about 35 degree weather! It turned out perfectly! Actually much better than I ever hoped for. Joe, thank you so much. I know its such a cliche but that weekend was my groundhog day. I would happily live it on repeat, and you made it look so easy. I am forever grateful.

Planning a wedding as an overseas bride throws some logistical nightmares in your way and I didn’t want to leave the burden on my mum, especially as the wedding was taking place 90 minutes from Durban. I did a little online research and found our wedding (life) savers, Oh Happy Day. We met Joelene over Skype and instantly knew she was PERFECT. I felt like I had known her for many years. She is so loving, positive and just gushes for her brides – she really does have a knack for just knowing who and what you are all about and for making you feel so special. 

The planning part of the wedding was such fun – I shared my Pinterest board with Joelene and when home on a holiday, we had a table mock up – it was such a good way for us to really visualise and finalise our decor. From there on, it was plain sailing. Our big day came around so quickly, and I know it’s cliché to say it goes so fast, but it truly does take you by storm. I honestly don’t know what we would have done if Joe had not been there. The whole experience is so gloriously overwhelming that you forget about the special things that you have planned. Having a wedding planner like Joelene, who had nutted out every single detail (with our MC, venue owners, best men) everything worked like clockwork. She also transformed our marquee and canape area to be exactly what I had wanted and even more. Having someone who has done many weddings before and who knows the tips and tricks of the market, set up, vendors, photographers etc. will save you so much money as well as time. I thought of Joelene as my wedding fairy godmother and believe me, so will you.

I was absolutely pleased with Joelene’s service. The following stood out for me in the beginning stages of our planning process: her amazing eye for detail and creative ideas / suggestions; Her bubbly personality that kept me going, especially when I was just totally “over it”; her knowledge of the industry and amazing wedding vendors; her knowledge of what generally happens on the day; her commitment to sticking to what I wanted and not what she wanted (especially because I did lots very different to the norm and wedding planners don’t like that).

Now that the actual wedding is over, I cannot praise her enough! She became my MOH when my real MOH couldn’t be there to assist me. She literally just took over my to-do list in the last week and did whatever she possibly could. This is why I can’t praise Joelene enough because I can’t imagine what our wedding would have been like without her.

On the day, when things went wrong or just didn’t look pretty enough, she just worked her magic and made it beautiful. She even dished our food for us and made sure that we ate because things get so crazy for the bride and groom. Many other “little” things she did that made a HUGE difference to the overall smooth sailing of the day. Value (and more) for your money!

A few things I learnt about Joelene from working with her on our wedding:

• She genuinely loves weddings – all types. This enthusiasm makes her work extra hard.

• She really didn’t inflict her style on us and was just really helpful in making our own ideas come to life and develop. For example, she was totally respectful of and accommodating towards the Sri Lankan traditions of our wedding, which were completely unfamiliar to her. For the things she knew more about, she had awesome ideas that were in the spirit of what we were trying to achieve.

• I really wasn’t expecting this, but I think Joelene saved us a lot of money; she had really inventive ways to source items (not always from traditional wedding suppliers; often considering bulk buying stores, hand-made elements, etc.) and was also great at suggesting changes to the contracts with our suppliers.

• She was really good at dealing with suppliers and defending our wishes and requirements to them.

I can only imagine that since our wedding and since she started running Oh Happy Day full-time, her network, experience and knowledge would have grown stronger.

This sweetheart table was created for our Safari Elopement inspiration shoot at @cheetahridgelodge . I think it captured the essence of a romantic elopement perfectly and honestly, in such a stunning setting (you have to see this tree in real life to know what I mean).

  • It's taken us a few weeks to prepare BUT it's finally launch day! It brings me great joy to introduce to you today our OHD Everlast dried floral bar. #ohdeverlast

Textual preserved and dried foliage arrangements for your home. Available in Everlast (regular) and Everlast Mini, we also offer custom designs (big and small). Designs will change each week based on availability of blooms and are while stocks last.

What makes them special? No wastage and longevity make for a winning combination. The longevity of dried flowers over fresh—no wastage, the idea of gifting them and being able to send them all over the country without any need to refrigerate or find a water source. OHD Everlasts promote an eco-attitude and they can be re-used, re-gifted and recycled.

The Process : DM or mail us to pre-order (while stocks last). From date of POP to delivery is approximately 7 working days. Local delivery fee is R50 and nationwide orders will be subject to a courier fee.

In preparation of our launch we've pre-made a few Everlast (R985 ea) and Everlast Minis (R650 ea) which are ready to go this week! Eeeeeeeeeep!   • As we step into a new level today I just want to encourage everyone to go slooooow and be kind (to others but also to yourself). It's going to take time to get used to the fast-paced deadline driven nature of how things used to be - if it ever gets back to that. In fact the world as we knew it, may not ever go back to the way it once was.

Go into this new week and this third level with open hearts. Practice empathy. Be fluid in your expectations of others.
